Summary

The chair of Human Resource and Organization Management at the HTW Berlin is looking for Organization Design and Human Resource challenges in its final Master project course . Your challenge will be delivered by a diverse and international team with background from HR, Management, IT and other sciences.

Description

The Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (University of Applied Sciences for Engineering and Economics) or HTW Berlin is the largest public University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and Eastern Germany. It has about 13,000 students and 70 programs in areas of engineering, computer science, business and graphic arts.

Objectives

In this course, students develop in groups of maximum five students in the field of Organization and HR Strategy new applied concepts and scenario proposals. The challenge goal is provided by the company, which seeks an improvement in its HR organization or its HR business strategy.

The student teams start first with a thorough screening from a research perspective; identify benchmarks and similar problems, conducting interviews and field research. In the first milestone, all this information is summarized in a story profile. Based on this, the group works out key strategic drivers levers for the future scenario or solution. The scenarios consist of a description of the solution, its influencing factors and possible areas of application. As a result, the project team delivers strategic recommendations for the partner.

Participating companies must ensure collaborative support in case of interview partners and resources and/or budgets for company visits in order to guarantee the best results possible. At the end of the semester, the companies’ representatives are invited to the final presentations of the results and will receive an analysis and solution report.

At the end of this master class, each group delivers a concept proposal. Example topics and applied fields can be:

Methods

The master class project will be handled by applying a modern project management approach . Projects are seen and handled as new ventures, rather than from a classical project manager approach. With this approach, students will aim to deliver specific customer value rather than abstract concepts. Students will learn, to think in ‘customer stories’ and will learn to workout ‘sprints’ in terms of highly result-driven project management.

Content-wise, the team applies modern techniques from Organizational Development, HR diagnostics, HR process model design and Open System Planning etc.

While we use your company information and most likely logo and/or trademarks to present you to the academic partners, no third-party, which is not directly involved in the collaboration will never be granted access to sensitive information. As part of the Terms of use, all students agree to the confidentiality clause, when they log in to the network for the first time. I need to have certainty about any Intellectual and Industrial Rights originating from a collaboration!

How does the engagement model and collaboration work?

Our role-based platform structures and standardises the process in a simple and intuitive manner with a number of key interaction points, such as the kick-off, mid-term touch points and final presentation. The figure below illustrates the process with the three key roles, being the Challenge Sponsor (CS), Professor and the Student.

Is there any academic supervision of the students working on my challenges?

All collaborations promoted on the Academic Business Network are part of curricular or academically supervised extracurricular activities. For the greater part of the collaborations the challenges are worked on as part of the academic program of a specific course in a bachelor, master or MBA degree, so students performance is in direct correlation to the achievement of course credits and grades.

What is the typical collaboration period with teams of students?

Average collaboration periods take 75 days from kick-off to final presentation. New intense formats with shorter periods are currently experimented with to understand the quality and validity of potential solution outputs.

How much of my time is required to make a collaboration successful?

Half an hour every five to ten days are the standard reports we get from our customers in the higher satisfaction percentiles. Most of the time is required in the preparation, alignment and initial collaboration phase of the challenges.

Do I need to be at the university at some point in time during the engagement?
